EA’s CFMPs set sail

york flooding

Hearing the radio reporting a number of flood warnings for thawing Britain just days after our distribution of EA’s first 13 Catchment Flood Management Plans, it did serve as a stark reminder of the importance of their work. Throughout the development of the plan our team has had a great insight into the huge amount of work EA has had to produce to bring these plans together.

Each Catchment Flood Management Plan provides an overview of the flood risk across each river catchment and estuary of that particular area and recommend ways of managing those risks now and over the next 50-100 years. They consider all types of inland flooding, from rivers, ground water, surface water and tidal flooding and also take into account the likely impacts of climate change, the effects of how we use and manage the land, and how areas could be developed to meet our present day needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

As a campaign we were delighted to be involved in the process and hope this project which we’ve been involved in for well over 9 months has the impact that could make such a major difference to the residents and businesses of the covered area.
