Content Is King?

When it comes to captivating your website visitors your written content is king. Your greatest chance of success is producing original, good quality words that really engages your target audience. A good website will prosper on the back of it. However, quality relevant content is sometimes tough to generate. Even in an era when artificial intelligence can help, producing good content is not easy. I am often even stuck with what to write about for my next blog, let alone writing it well. So I thought I would write about that. The challenge and importance of writing good content, the potential impact it can have and its relative importance compared to design.

Great Writing

The American author Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote “easy reading is damn hard writing.” I agree and there is real value in working hard on your website content. When there is so much content out there competing for our attention it is essential to provide useful, relevant and interesting information. Ideally this is presented in an engaging style of writing that draws the reader in. It is this kind of storytelling that can connect with your audience and encourage ongoing interaction with your website. It helps too to really think about what the reader is looking to get from the page. This preparation and effort can result in really informative, brilliant content which can be very rewarding in terms of both professional satisfaction and online performance.

Fantastic Content v Visual Excellence

Having said all that where does the value of amazing content sit in comparison to the design that it exists on. As content writer I am naturally inclined to push the merits of the written word but I am also happy to accept the value of design. Sure you want your site to look great but excellent design can do more than that. It can ensure a lasting impression on your audience, enhance your brand, aid user experience and ultimately boost sales. The two are critical to each other. Without great design, content may look boring and not even be read. Similarly, without meaningful words design is somewhat redundant. Ultimately giving strong focus to both content and design is the best way forward. Ideally they are produced with thought for and collaboration with the other.

Let’s not forget about the importance of design but, as I said, content is king. I genuinely enjoy creating it. Long live the king.
