Paid search! If you haven’t dipped your toes into the world of paid search yet, this is your first port of call. Whether its Google paid ads (PPC), social media or even programmatic, this is guaranteed to get you more website traffic – quick. However, you’ll want high quality website traffic that’s likely to convert, or at least be nurtured to a conversion. Choosing carefully selected keywords, or targeting your advertising is absolutely essential to your success.

Get social. If you’re still in the percentage of business owners who think they don’t need a social media presence – we suggest you reconsider. There are many social media channels out there and at least one (probably more like 3 or 4) will suit your business. Building an audience, talking to them and tailoring appropriate content will drive traffic back to your website. There’s also the option to boost content that’s performing well to an even wider audience.

Test, test, test! There’s no magic formula for writing content, so test short and long blogs, video, picture posts, infographics, social media polls – there’s so many ways you can engage with your audience, testing out what’s driving the most traffic back to your website is key to growth.

Write irresistible headlines… if you spend a bit of time coming up with headlines that are too enticing not to click, then you’re much more likely to pull that user into your website.

Optimise your page. Sounds obvious, but don’t forget to optimise your content for SEO! Choose your keywords and don’t forget your internal linking structure, image alt tags and meta descriptions. It will all help boost your organic traffic.

Choose long tail keywords. Yes you’ve got your priority keyword (also the most competitive) and popular keywords covered, but spending some time researching long tail keywords and optimising your pages for these too will help push more organic traffic to your website. Chances are you’ll rank for these quicker because less people are competing for them.

Consider guest blogging. Find a website that compliments your brand and targets the same audience and try to secure a guest blog spot. Done well, guest blogging can drive a good percentage of relevant traffic to your website. Not to mention the back link will be good for your SEO!

Don’t forget email marketing. Since GDPR, email lists have been massively reduced. Rules are strict and punishments steep for organisations who breach the data rights of individuals. So understandably email marketing has seen a decline. However it’s still a highly fruitful channel to drive traffic to your website.

Make sure your website is fast. But what has this got to do with driving traffic to your website you might ask! Well for one, it’ll affect your search rankings as site speed IS an SEO factor, if your website is slow and clunky Google will penalise you for it. But also, returning visitors are your ultimate website goal, are they going to keep coming back to a slow, under-performing website? Think not!

Make sure your internal linking structure is on point. This isn’t just about SEO, it’s about directing your users to different pieces of information they might also find useful. It gets them navigating around your website, staying longer, possibly sharing your content (which will drive more users back to you site) and could well mean a return visit!
